High Heels, YouTube And Bench Pressing - three things that wreck your health, Part 2

Too much YouTube is really, really bad for you. Apart from the mind numbing tedium of watching some idiots miming along to Britney Spears' "Circus", it wreaks havoc on your posture and health.

A lot of you reading this go to the gym and that's a pretty good thing to be doing. Unfortunately we're talking one hour out of twenty four where your body is working properly; most of the time you're stuck behind a desk or on a train and your hips, shoulders and neck all seize up and you wonder why you feel like Quasimodo after an Easyjet flight.

What's happening here? Anatomically speaking, constantly being seated puts the body into a state of flexion. This has negative impact on several major parts of the body, such as your spine and shoulders.

The vertebrae in the lumbar spine only have to shift a few degrees forward to be exposed by immense pressure and the shoulders, being an incredibly complex joint, can be affected by a variety of impingement dysfunctions. Aside from that, it just looks terrible as well.

So what is the desk jockey to do?

The answer is simple...move! It takes about twenty minutes for the body to get fixed in any stationary posture. Set an outlook alert or wait for an email to drop in and go walk about, have a stretch and be mindful of your posture!
